About the project
Project "Volunteering for Social Cohesion" (V4SC) is financed by Romania-Bulgaria Cross Border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013. The project partners are Association Vasiliada - Craiova, Romania (lead partner) and Free Youth Centre - Vidin, Bulgaria. The general objective of the project is to increase contribution of volunteering to social development of local communities in Romanian-Bulgarian cross-border region. The envisaged budget on the project is 178 594 EUR, provided by European Union through European Regional Development Fund, the governments of Romania and Bulgaria and the project partners.

In Craiova, Romania held the final conference of the project. It was attended by over 50 representatives of social and educational institutions, NGOs and volunteers, Incl. guests from Bulgaria as well. The participants were informed in detail about the achievements of "Volunteering for social cohesion", as well as with lessons learned.

In Vidin, Bulgaria held the second of the planned in the project exchanges of volunteers. Young volunteers and experts discussed the problems and prospects of social volunteering, visited social institutions and organized events in them.

In Craiova, Romania held the first of the planned in the project exchanges of volunteers. It was attended by more than 50 young people and professionals in the social sektor of both countries, who shared their experiences in social volunteering.

During summer months, 26 young "volunteers for social cohesion" of Vidin and Montana are volunteering in favor of children at risk and people with disabilities. 6 social services from both cities are hosting the activity carried out in partnership with local schools.

During the month it took place a series of meetings of the specialists
team with the volunteers of the project "Volunteering for Social
Cohesion" within the Methodical Centre for Volunteering in social
domain. These aimed the granting of informational resources regarding
the legislation in social domain, methods and techniques of work
used in social services, as well as specific counseling for optimal
achievement of tasks of work received within the institutions, which
are suppliers of social services where they develop volunteering
activities.

During the month there were signed 40 partnerships with social and educational institutions from counties Dolj and Mehedinti with the purpose of a methodology of work with the volunteers through Methodical Centre of Volunteering in social domain created in the project. The partnerships concluded aim the increase of the degree of social cohesion in the Romanian-Bulgarian border.

Ten volunteers of the project "Volunteers for social cohesion" attended to the filming of the TV spot which had the purpose of volunteering in social domain in Romania and which will be broadcast by a national television with a high catchment area.

In Belogradchik was completed the training of volunteers from regions of Vidin and Montana, participants in the "Volunteers for Social Cohesion" project. The purpose of the education was to prepare them for services in the social sector.

Second joint workshop took place on the banks of the Danube near Orshova, Romania. Participants discussed the contents of the Guide to social volunteering, prepared by experts on volunteering and social services.

Vasiliada Organization organized a course of initiation in the
"Legislation and Methods regarding the Volunteering in domain of
Social work and services" within the project Volunteering for social
Cohesion. At the class attended 28 young people with ages between
16 and 25 years old from the counties Dolj and Mehedinti who will
apply and develop their learning within some programmes of volunteering
in social institutions.

In the hotel "Skalite", Belogradchik, Bulgaria, took place a joint Bulgarian-Romanian Workshop for professionals in the social and educational sectors of the border area. The meeting was focused on the development of guidelines for social volunteering based on best practices that exist in both countries and European ones.

The process of the recruiting and selection of volunteers within
the project "Volunteer for social cohesion" was completed. Therefore,
after filing some applications, it was selected a number of 28 volunteers
from the counties Dolj and Mehedinti who will attend to the activities

domain.

Craiova, Romania hosted a meeting of the management team of the project "Volunteering for Social Cohesion" (V4SC). The meeting was in connection with the recent launch of the project and the primary goal was to agree on detailed planning of activities in time. The logo of V4SC was approved, which will be posted in all printed materials and in the website of the project. The project partners, Association Vasiliada and Free Youth Centre, shared the view they have capacity and motivation which guarantee a successful implementation.
